Launch roundtable discussions

I must admit I am very excited to be able to be in China. Unfortunately while we were enjoying the hospitality of this beautiful country, the earthquake affected midland China. My heart goes out to all families who have lost loved ones or were left without a place to live. We are all very sorry for their loss...

One of the most astounding facts about the launch of this network is how it brings together important and influential organisations and institutions: NCGE (National Council for Graduate Entrepreneurship), British Council, STEFG (Shanghai Technology Entrepreneurship Foundation for Graduates) and SIFT (Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade). I believe it is important when such institutions can work together towards the benefit of communities and nations and with influences and potential of each of the partners, believe me, great things are in store. It is also important to notice how timely such cooperation is - more than ever we see the importance of graduate entrepreneurhship and how essential it is for the development of the economy, and hence we also see the importance of enterprise educators and providing them with the right tools and expertise. This task, especially on the international arena, is challenging, yet very rewarding.

The speeches at the launch have left me with a couple of thoughts - firstly, how little I actually knew of China - I do encourage everyone to do a bit of reading - the development and potential of this country is amazing. And secondly - how important this cooperation is to both countries. Paul Hannon, when presenting, has used a term "our opportunity" when relating to the network and its launch. This made me think how not only is this cooperation a great chance for China to look at UK's examples of best practice but also how great chane it is for UK to revisit all of its practices. Sharing examples and experience with someone else makes us reconsider our solutions - and of course question and redesign them - which can only be beneficial. I do like this idea of mutuality - both countries have an opportunity to learn and develop their solutions. I am sure the results will be impressive...
